Points, shmoints.

Well, called down on the 29th. Needed points to reserve a table, specifically 900 for opening day.

Called the next day when they said to and made a big goof. Was supposed to reserve space for 4 people as GFâ„¢'s mother is bringing her new BF. Instead, I, being the bonehead, only reserved three spots. Called later in the week, after we had gottent the tickets in the mail, and the only things available were single seats.

I'll make it up another time. I swear.

Filter change good timing or need new tank water filter

Well, we got a new fish from a small pet shop where I thought they would have new filter for the Tap Water Filter we use to filter the water for the fish tank. They said they hadn't carried them in years. So, like I said, we got a new fish from them. A malen Platy which at PetCo would have been listed as a Blue Dalmation Platy. This guy just had his Platies all together in one tank, which, in essence, makes sense.

Guy said he could get a filter for me, but it'd take a week to get it in. I'll have to remember to talk to him about other ways to filter the fish water before putting it in. He mentioned a Reverse Osmosis system would be the best bang for the buck over the long term, but we don't have the room for that type of system.

Dilemma

Well, I've essentially been offered the choice between two jobs. Both of which are low paying, but they are jobs. One is working as a Service Technician for Rove Pest Control. The other is as an Electronic Assembler for Celestica through Addecco. This one has a possibility of becoming a Soldering position with more money.

Cured Sickness or Unlucky Molly

We had our latest acquisition, the Black male Molly, die on us this past Monday. Found it hidden behind the treasure chest, under the tank filter and tucked under a fake plant.

I swear, it's the 3rd or 4th one to die on us in a row. GFâ„¢ is insistant on a so-called even number of fish. I'd rather follow the hints and not bother as the worst the remaining fish have been was a small bout of ick this past weekend/week.

Speaking of, on Sunday GFâ„¢ insisted on putting a dose of Ick Clear in the tank as she saw a big white dot on the Creamsicle Molly and thought it was ick. Doing so required us to take out the tank filter due to it coming with carbon already inside it. I saw that it was close to being plugged, so I tossed that one and got a new one ready to go. After 48 hours or so, the fish in question looked fine and thus I put the new filter in, which would have been Wednesday, March 26th.
Will keep an eye on tank filter and replace as necessary, noting here when completed.

Interviews *crosses fingers*

Well, last Thursday I interviewed for a position at a really small company up in Lindstrom. I sent a thank you letter after I got home.

No response yet, but I shouldn't be surprised as the position is calling for knowing C or C++ computer programming.

Just got home from an interview for a company up in Rogers. I sent a thank you note as soon as I got home as well. I am to hear back by next Wednesday if I have moved on to the next stage in the process.

Hope I do.

Can't keep 3 Mollies

Just found the Black Molly dead behind the treasure chest. It had to have died overnight as none of the fish had started to eat it. It probably helped that it was in a hidden spot of sorts next to a plant and underneath the tank filter as well.

I'm glad there is no snow in the summer

Called down to Canterbury Park today and found out that only those in the MVP club they have can call and reserve a table on March 29th for Opening Day of Live Racing. Everyone else has to wait until the 30th. So, GFâ„¢ and I went down to the track this afternoon and signed up. We also bet on a few races from Bay Meadow & Santa Anita race tracks.

Hopefully, it's first come, first served on reserving the tables and not by the number on your card or that you need points to reserve a table. *crosses fingers*

New fish or Balloon Mollies suck

Got a male Black Molly this morning to replace the Balloon Molly we lost last Saturday. We'll see how it goes.

Also learned that Swordtails are not Mollies but are their own species themselves, though they will crossbreed with Platies.

We definitely are never getting Ballon Mollies again as it seems they can't handle stress or something. The two or three we've ever had have died on us not too long after we brought them home. And thus, they suck.

With this, it seems we now have three Danios, three Platies, two Mollies, a Swordtail and a Plecostmus. Two more Danios and we'll have a Fibonacci tank.

Just found this one upside down not moving with a couple brown spots on the body next to a fake plant. It was dead. I used the net, grabbed it and once I determined it was dead, I flushed it down the toilet. Had it been just seriously sick, I would have frozen it to put it out of its misery.

D-I-R-T-Y or Algea, algea everywhere

As previously noted, we picked up a female Silver Ballon Molly from the store after freezing the previous male Silver Molly.

This brings the ratio of female Mollies & Platies to male ones down to 5:1. Hope he's happy.

Also, I have noticed that the Balloon Molly has become less balloon-like in the past few days. Could it be something that happens while in the store or is it just how she looks through the glass on the tank.

Job search Day 8: 25 jobs applied to. Or adventures with auto-apply.

Date: 2/18/08
Position: Instrument Repair Technician
Company/Temp Agency: ITC Medical
City: Roseville
Source: Dunwoody Career Services

Got a response from a Diane Norton last Friday afternoon about the job I put above. She wanted a more thorough explanation of my job history and where I found out about the job. Thing is, I mention where I find the job in the first sentence in the first paragraph in my cover letter. Always do.

Tried a site's auto-apply feature. Good and bad things about it. Good thing is that I applied to quite a lot of positions in just one day. Bad thing is, most of the positions that were applied to, I didn't qualify for or never would apply to in the first place. So, I stopped the auto-apply feature. Means I'll have to do the work myself now, but at least I'll know what I'm applying for.

Since last Wednesday I've applied to 25 positions, which are listed below in chronological order.

Scott Tissue

A few weeks ago, GFâ„¢ and I found a coupon for a pack of Scott Tissue in the Sunday Ads section of our local paper. So, we bought a small package just to try it out. Well, we just cracked it open and we both feel it's too thin for our tastes. Feels like I need twice what I normally use to just clean everything. Definitely we are not going to use Scott Tissue again once we use up this pack.

Reminded me of the tissue used in public bathrooms practically everywhere.

Way too thin.

New Fish, Cleaning tank and new tank filter!

We went to the store and got another fish to replace the one that died today. Picked up a few new plant decorations, a couple that glow in the dark.

The new fish is a female Gold Twinbar Platy.

We had a bit of a shock when we finished cleaning the rock strata of the tank and filled the tank. Went to go plug the tank filter back in and it didn't work. Nothing happened. Added water, tried the wall socket. Nothing. So, we made an emergency run to Wal-Mart to pick up a new tank filter. Fortunately, they had tank filters in the fish section of the Pet Supplies. Would never get fish from them, however. Their tanks have no decoration for the fish to use or interact with. Not even rock strata. They had a few dead fish in their tanks, but that almost seems normal. Not even much of a selection, though.

So, we grabbed an Aqua-Tech 5-15 Power Filter and rushed home to get it set up. Or else it would have been until after 9am this morning before we would have had a new tank filter set up.

We'll stop by the pet store today and pick up a new tank filter like our old one and swap when we get home. The one from Wal-Mart just bought us some time.

We also tossed our old gallon jugs and picked up 9 new ones. Will be operating on a system of 3 gallons each week. Every 4th week, will do a cleaning of the tank. Tank filter will just be replaced when it's needed.

Hi-Fin Red Wag Platy 2007-2008

Just found the remains of the Hi-Fin Red Wag Platy on the bottom of the tank. Color was gone and looked like the the rest of the fish had started to really nip at it, as they tend to do with dead things.

In a way, it isn't surprising that it's dead. It's been hiding in one spot in the tank for quite a while. Don't know why, though. We did look for it, but we never did scare it out of its hiding spot, assuming it was napping or something.

Damn.
