Hi-Fin Red Wag Platy 2007-2008

Just found the remains of the Hi-Fin Red Wag Platy on the bottom of the tank. Color was gone and looked like the the rest of the fish had started to really nip at it, as they tend to do with dead things.

In a way, it isn't surprising that it's dead. It's been hiding in one spot in the tank for quite a while. Don't know why, though. We did look for it, but we never did scare it out of its hiding spot, assuming it was napping or something.

Damn.

4th week of the year...

Well, we ended up getting 5 new fish last Saturday while taking in the Male Guppy and the Male Red Wag Swordtail Molly.

Everyone appears much happier now without the bully around.

I swear that the Danios we got must be part shark cause they are almost constantly moving about the tank.

Just did water change this week. Will clean tank next week.

Replaced tank filter yesterday as well.

After filling gallon jugs, will replace water filter with new.

Third Friday in January

Ok, starting next week, new program. Going to empty only {does math} 18% of the tank each week with rotating sets of three gallon jugs of prepped water. On the 4th week, will empty tank down to 50% to clean rock strata and rearrange decorations.1

Had to dose the tank three times with Parasite Clear because the female Pineapple Swordtail Molly had what appeared to be velvet along the top of her body between her head and her dorsal fin. She looks much better now.

We may have a bully in the male Red Swordtail Molly. He constantly goes after practically every other fish, but especially the Platies we have left. Almost constantly hanging around the female Pineapple Swordtail Molly. If I didn't know better, I'd almost swear it was a Remora, the way it hangs around the female Pineapple Swordtail Molly.2

We'll probably pick up a new fish or two this weekend. Especially now that the female Pineapple Swordtail Molly is looking better.

Full cleaning and sick and dead fish

Found the Sunshine Platy right on the heater. Probably died and floated up and over to the heater. When I fished it out, there was a gapping hole in its side. Damn.

Cleaned the rock strata as best as I could. Used two socks in the process. We use toddler socks as filters for the water. Put the sick over the end of the hose and then turn the pump on, sock will hold the dirt and crap and the water will go right through.

I removed everything to clean the rock strata and I put everything back, but in a different configuration, theory being that it will cause the fish to redo their territories.

I worry about our fish sometimes. They can be real doofuses(doofi?).

The female Pineapple Swordtail Molly has what appears to be either ich or freshwater velvet on it.
The female Hi-Fin Red Wag Platy has taken up an odd habit. She'll sit between one of the plants and the glass, vertically. As in, her nose will be pointed up to the surface of the water.
The female Silver Molly has had an odd S-shape to her body almost from the day we got her. Don't know how it happened. Anyway, earlier this week, I noticed it was wobbling back and forth a bit, but that seems to have gone away. Whether it's due to just acclimating again to everything or not, don't know.
